![]() ![]() You are the Lone Wanderer, an outcast from Vault 101 who sacrifices a relatively easy life in order to brave the terrors of the post-apocalyptic Wasteland and find your Dad, whose mysterious departure from Vault 101 sets a chain of events in motion that will change the Capital Wasteland forever… In 2008 Bethesda revived Interplay’s famous “Post Nuclear Role Playing Game”, moving from third person to first person, and from the west coast to the east coast. The Fallout franchise certainly has, however. Some items, however, are worth more than their simple cap value-typically components for various weapons you can craft or items certain NPCs need (and will reward you for). Now’s as good a time as any to set the standards for looting… If it has a Value-to-Weight ratio of 5-to-1 (5 caps for one pound of weight), it might be worth hauling off and selling. ![]() When they’re dead, go through the previously locked door they opened (opposite the exterior Vault door.) Enter the room to your right and loot it. Ignore them and head out the door… And use thier unwillingness to cross the boundary to the outside world to your advantage and beat them to death. As the door opens… slowly… you’ll be harrassed by two Officers. Chat with you one last time before heading out. You’ll get the hang of it.ġ1) To the Entrance - (Vault 101 - Entrance)įlip the electrical switch in front of you and head into the large room and activate the Vault Door Security Control. In summary, guess a spot to place the bobby pin, apply torque, and if it doesn’t unlock, move your bobby pin an amount based on how much progress you got before stress was put on the bobby pin. The more difficult the lock, the higher Lockpick score you need to be able to even attempt to open it, and the smaller the sweet spot for the bobby pin is. Run out of bobby pins, and you can’t pick the lock until you get more. If the bobby pin takes too much damage during your attempt, it’ll break. The further the lock turns, the closer the bobby pin is to the right spot. If not, the lock will click and damage the bobby pin. If the bobby pin is in the right spot, the lock will turn from vertical to horizontal, and the lock will open. Guess the right spot to apply torque, which turns the lock. How does the unlocking mini-game works, you ask? Well, you rotate the bobby pin up to 180° around the top and sides of the screen. ![]() The player explains his plans in the clip's YouTube description, saying, "This time can still be improved, even if my raven rock was godly, my vault 87 was pretty awful, so I would like to get a sub 14:50".A defiant lock stands imposing and vertical (right), but is soon thrown down in horizontal defeat (left). As a matter of fact, the speedrunner is looking to employ strategies that will best his own time with another go-round. Now that his name is attached to Fallout 3's speedrun world record, Rydou isn't content to rest on his laurels. After all, instead of maintaining the typically friendly relationship with the character Jonas Palmer, Rydou shoots the NPC to force him to move to a more advantageous position for the playthrough. However, the point of such a feat isn't to experience the story normally by encountering combat and incurring damage. The scene in question is definitely impressive, for attempting the method has the potential to freeze up the game if not done at exactly the right moment, so it's obvious that Rydou spent a lot of time practicing.Īs seen above, the speedrun is pretty admirable, even if Rydou had its difficulty set at very easy. Much like Kungkobra's recent New Vegas speedrun world record of 20 minutes, Rydou also took advantage of an exploit in Fallout 3 that gives a 60 percent boost in walking and running speed after intentionally crippling oneself upon leaving Vault 101 at the beginning of the game and quickloading right before doing so. On top of the aforementioned stratagems, perhaps the most important one Rydou used is the quicksaving and reloading technique, which allowed him to occasionally walk through solid objects such as buildings and other structures for brief periods. Speedrun records in Fallout 3 have been tackled many times before, and in order to make it through the title as fast as humanly possible, players have to utilize well-timed tricks, swiftly skip over heaps of dialogue, and exploit in-game glitches. As it happens, Rydou's speedy quest through the game's main storyline of Fallout 3 clocks in at 14:54.71, knocking roughly 6 whole seconds off the former champ's time. The speedrunner, YouTuber, and ardent Fallout 3 player known as Rydou has officially played through Bethesda's open world title at a blazingly fast speed to beat Petite_Miku's original world record completion of exactly 15 minutes. One extremely dedicated Fallout 3 fan plays through Bethesda's post-apocalyptic RPG to beat it in just under 15 minutes, setting a brand new world record. ![]()
